The Committee have agreed to introduce a Cold / Adverse Weather Protocol
Black Ice Risk
If overnight temperatures before a ride are forecast to be at or below freezing, group rides will be cancelled when the morning air temperature on ride day is forecast to be 5°C or lower before 10:00 a.m.
Black ice can persist until air temperatures reach 5 °C, particularly on shaded lanes, bridges, and rural roads.
Other Adverse Conditions
The Committee will review forecasts and local conditions the day before a ride and make a common-sense decision. When these are assessed as potentially unsafe, we will cancel group rides.
The decision will be based on varying circumstances which may include:
Overnight weather conditions and forecast, including air and ground temperatures
The likelihood of strong winds, heavy rain, frost or snow
The potential for poor or dangerous road conditions
The ongoing and short-term forecast around the planned ride time
We will notify members of any cancellation as early as possible.
If you choose to ride independently despite a cancellation, please do so sensibly and put safety first.
