Charity Challenge Update – 100 × Everest Progress

The PCC Charity Challenge is well underway and the numbers are starting to tell a really interesting story. With riders spread across three teams and everyone contributing in different ways, the collective effort is beginning to stack up — both on the climbs and for the charity.

⛰ 100 × Everest – Overall Progress

Our challenge target is a combined 884,800 metres of climbing (the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest 100 times).

  • Climbed so far: ~175,000 m

  • Challenge completed: ~20%

After the opening week, this puts us broadly on pace. Week 1 often sets the baseline; Weeks 2 and 3 are traditionally where the bigger totals start to land.

📊 Leaderboard – Current Standings

At the sharp end

  • Phil Segar leads the way on 13,182 m

  • Simon Gaywood close behind with 12,995 m

  • Matt Cox holding strong on 10,880 m

  • S Arkwright on 9,156 m

  • Peter Wyatt now on 8,599 m, having already added early Week 2 metres

The front of the leaderboard is competitive, but the gaps are still very manageable.

📈 Week 2 Movers (Early Momentum)

Several riders have already started to reshape the leaderboard in Week 2:

  • Iain Bourne: +2,330 m (now 4,859 m)

  • Steve Marsh: +1,058 m (now 3,178 m)

  • Michael Hardwick: +1,049 m (now 2,904 m)

  • Chris Ruell: +750 m (now 3,586 m)

  • Ben Warren: +501 m (now 3,684 m)

Smaller but important additions have also come from Ann Tarr, Jamie Lawrence, Mark Bradley, and JP Poole.

The key takeaway: the leaderboard is being reshaped from the middle, not just the very top. One solid hilly ride can still move riders multiple places.

🧠 What the Numbers Tell Us

  • The challenge is being driven by consistent contributions across the group, not just headline performances

  • Week 2 momentum has clearly started

  • The mid-pack will ultimately decide both the team competition and the overall Everest total

This remains very much a live challenge.

💛 Fundraising Update

Just as important as the climbing is the fundraising:

  • £1,040 raised so far

  • 41% of our £2,500 target

  • 67 supporters backing the challenge

Top individual fundraisers

  • 🥇 Simon Gaywood – £230

  • 🥈 Eric Segar – £80

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, shared the page, or encouraged others to support the cause.

🚨 A Gentle Reminder

If you’re riding in the challenge, please make sure you’re also donating.

No judgement… but also, a little judgement 😄This is a charity challenge, and every contribution — big or small — really does matter.

There’s still a lot of Everest left to climb, but we’re properly on our way.Keep riding, keep climbing, and keep the fundraising ticking along.
